INSECTIFY.

GENERAL.

  • MUTUALS ONLY. 19+ ONLY, I don't write with minors.

  • PRO-FICTION. If you believe that the taboo topics someone writes are representative of their IRL views/morals, that people who write taboo topics with consenting RP partners are a 'danger' to the RPC, or that problematic topics should be entirely off limits to write - then please grow up, get a grip, and get well soon!

  • I AM ON THIS WEBSITE TO WRITE. If you spend more time formatting your RP posts than writing them, or your blog seems more like a personal than an RP blog, we aren't compatible!

  • BLOCKING. I block pretty liberally, but it's rarely personal. If I can tell that we won't mesh as writing partners, I block so we avoid running into each other.

  • TAGGING. Please have a tagging system for IC/OOC posts!

  • DRAMA. I avoid people who are constantly vague-posting, getting into arguments over what people choose to ship or roleplay on their own blog, or posting callouts over petty RP stuff.

WRITING.

  • LENGTH. Multi-para preferred, I've got no real interest in writing single para stuff. Think 4+ paragraphs. 1:1 length matching isn't required.

  • FORMATTING. I use <small> text.

  • SHIPPING. Possible, but not the main focus.

  • I DON'T CARE TO WRITE scenes involving active self-harm, sexual assault, non-con. ( No judgment to those who do, though! ) Anything else is pretty much fair game.

  • PLOTTING is much preferred, but not required.

  • I WRITE MESSY QUEER STUFF. This isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I don't really like to write in... idealized settings? I write characters whose attractions might not match the labels they choose, who may use outdated labels for themselves, who may not fully align with said labels, so on. While I'll happily respect your character labels and identities, please understand that Noland is not going to be perfect representation who will cleanly fit in a box!

FACECLAIM.

  • Noland's faceclaim is PETER CAPALDI, using icons from Lair of the White Worm, The Crow Road, and Doctor Who.

  • I do have comic and manga faceclaims for him, which I can use as needed to match icon styles.

  • Faceclaim duplicates OK. I don't do faceclaim exclusivity.

  • No banned FCs list, I can't be bothered to keep track lol.

TAGGING.

  • INSECTS, SURGERY & MEDICAL PROCEDURES, DISTRUST OF THE MEDICAL SYSTEM, TRANSPHOBIA. These themes are heavily present on this blog. Mentions in threads will not be tagged.

  • I will not be reblogging insect images.

  • The only triggers I tag are blood cw for images containing blood, NSFT cw for anything NSFW. I will not tag any other content, even on request. I can't keep track, sorry.

  • NSFW headcanons will be present here, clearly marked and under the cut.

DOCTOR
NOLAND
SECT.

Resident pest and cheapskate to an almost impressive degree, this man-sized insect hailing from Luxembourg spends his days doing what 'most people' could only dream of. Being barely employed, defrauding local businesses out of senior discounts, and practising DIY surgeries on himself -- for fun.

FOUR ARMS, FOUR WINGS, AND A CLAIMED AGE THAT CHANGES WITH THE WEATHER...Noland's physical form is one he has been working to perfect in himself for the past four years. He views his body less as a body and more as a project, dedicated to what he's dubbed the grand design - the idea of the 'perfect living specimen.' His methods and results with the design are forever shifting, but that elusive idea of absolute perfection always remains the end goal.

He's the kooky entomologist who lives on the outskirts of town ; the one who you can find bundled up in an oversized sweater and scarf in the corner of the library. The one who never says all that much, but he'll help you reach that book on the top shelf. The one who always buys two of the same sweater and shirt, "just in case!"An insect grows. It moults its skin and emerges as something new. It changes from a helpless larvae and into something beautiful. An insect is a creature that has so vehemently rejected everything it was to turn itself into something completely new and shed its past. In Noland's eyes, this is representative of himself ; to reject the body he was born into and to carve it into something divine. For Noland, his form is not something he'll ever be content with ; it's something for him to forever experiment with, investigate, modify, fix. Not unlike a sculptor with a chisel, this fine 'doctor' carves into himself with a scalpel to see what else he can change in his eternal quest to form his body into something truly unique. Claiming that he was 'enlightened' by an incident in his college years, he seems restless to craft himself into what he deems as nature's perfect form.( And yet he cannot help but hide it ; he binds his wings to his skin and brushes his antennae in with his hair, tucks his spare arms into his coat and prays the weather isn't too hot nor cold when he leaves his quiet lab. )

ART BY COLUBRID.

LOCATION.

Living in a secluded cabin in the forests of southern coastal British Columbia, not far from GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK.

LANGUAGE.

  • GERMAN. Mother tongue... but he hasn't made use of it in so long, he's lost his touch! Reading is fine, but he struggles with listening, speaking, and writing.

  • ENGLISH. Second language. Most fluent, most commonly used in day-to-day life.

  • FRENCH. Decent understanding, prefers speaking over writing.

  • LUXEMBOURGISH. Basic conversations possible.

RELIGION.

Atheist. Raised in an irreligious household.

  HEIGHT    6'3.
HAIR    UNNATURALLY BLACK, UNKEMPT, slight iridescent sheen in the highlights.
EYES    STRANGE. Blue-tinted sclera, greenish in its highlights with a purpleish undertone that glimmers through. Blue-ish iris -- when light hits his eyes at a certain angle, however, he appears to have no iris. Human-seeming pupils actually consist of densely-clustered lenses, visible up close.
  FACE    PETER CAPALDI.

  • HE AGES RAPIDLY. He'll look 23 one week, and 65 just a few weeks later. Once he moults his skin, however, he's back to his fresh-faced self. Bit of a weird relationship with aging.

  • Walks with a little bit of a hunch, unless he's making an active effort to stand straight. Bad spine, plenty of back pain to be had.

  • Covered head-to-toe in surgical scars. Most prominent is the tracheotomy scar on his throat.

  • Sickly complexion.

OMNIVORE.   Has a very heavy preference towards raw meat. INSECTIVOROUS. Consumes insects, but they're not a mainstay of his diet. HAEMATOPHAGIC. The introduction of mosquito digestive enzymes to his system allow him the ability to digest blood.

  POSITIVE    focused, visionary.
  NEUTRAL    perfectionist, devoted.
  NEGATIVE   nitpicky, unstable, cynical.

  • SEVERE BODY DYSMORPHIA. It probably isn't the best idea for him to continue making all these changes to himself, but he won't allow anything to stand in the way of his 'progress.'

  • NEVER, EVER SATISFIED. No matter what he does or what he looks at, he can always see room for improvement. Nothing is ever done, nothing is ever perfected.

  • HIS BODY IS HIS CANVAS. He's found himself devoted to 'the grand design', the idea of forming his body into nature's perfect design, whatever that may entail. As friendly as he is, he does deem his form to be the pinnacle of existence - or, at least a work-in-progress to such.

  • CURIOUS NATURED, he's willing to push his comfort zone or open up to others a bit more than he otherwise would if he thinks he could gain new knowledge from it.

  • CYNICAL VIEW ON HUMANITY, he can often work himself up into some angry rants about how humans just don't seem to get it! He has a personal tendency to reject the label of 'human' for himself, often referring to himself simply 'as a dragonfly...'

INSECT ANATOMY.

  • AGING CYCLE. He ages in a rapid cycle ; looking about 23 after a fresh moult, and getting to look around 65 by the time he's about to moult. The rapid aging does put a strain on his body, and he tends to spend the last few days before a moult just resting. The cycle lasts roughly 6 weeks.

  • LIFESPAN. His moulting does not however confer immortality ; he's determined that with time, he'll get to the point where his body will no longer stand the strain of moulting. He has no clue when that will be, however.

  • WINGS. Four of them ; great at bringing in heat or fanning himself to cool off. Not at all capable of flight ; he can dream, though! They naturally lay held away from the body, but he can tuck them down as needed. Long and translucent. He can only sleep on his stomach lest he accidentally crush his wings.

  • ANTENNAE. Two tiny curled things that jut out from just above his hairline ; thankfully dark enough to blend in in with the rest of his messy hair. They serve solely to detect sensitivities in the air for flight, so they're... more or less useless to him.

  • GROWTH. Seven inches taller than he was when he had his college incident, Noland has been growing with his moults. He appreciates the extra height, but he doesn't appreciate the extra back pain from it!

  • CHITIN. Organic exoskeleton-like plates cover most of his back, protecting the muscles which support his wings.

  • ARMS. An extra pair just beneath his regular ones ; the muscles aren't quite as defined as his regular arms, but he insists they'll get there in time. While his normal pair are his dominant arms, his secondary pair do have a tendency to fiddle with things when he's bored.

  • COLD-BLOODED. He can't generate his own body heat ; he's lethargic and slow when it's cold out and has to bury himself in many, many layers during the winter months.

  • BREATHING. While his lungs are still mostly in-tact, he has developed the vaguest hint of an insect's spiracles throughout his body. He can somewhat breathe through his skin, though it's not developed enough to sustain him for more than a few minutes at a time. This does make him especially sensitive to noxious chemicals in the air. His research has determined that with time, his lungs will become weaker and he'll become more dependent on skin respiration ; and years from now, should he get to the point where he can't moult, he'll simply suffocate.

  • EYES. His eyesight is sharper and more sensitive to detecting movement ; though through his eyes, everything is in focus at once. He tends to wears glasses to actually blur his vision around the edges a bit, lest he get overwhelmed by visual stimuli from being unable to focus his eyes.

  • DIET. The dragonfly is nature's perfect predator ; and Noland has started to take on those dietary preferences. While for the time being he can subsist off any food a human can eat, he does have a distinct preference towards raw meat. Mildly insectivorous, but bugs aren't a main staple of his diet.
